Unique, modern rural Andalusian casa on a hillside peninsular, overlooking Lake Beznar Reservoir with stunning panoramic views and private above ground heated swimming pool*. 'Off Grid' property means all heating and mains voltage is provided by our own self contained battery powered system using solar energy, a wind turbine with short (for high usage) diesel generator top-ups with a septic-tank waste system.
Please read additional important ‘House Rules’ information page. A car with good ground clearance is essential for a stay at this house as it is a slow 10 minutes drive from the nearest village of Talará down a narrow concreted farm road that winds through the orange and lemon groves with numerous drainage humps, to cope with winter deluges, and some steep curves as the road winds down towards the lake.
Built in 2011, the property is licenced for short term rental holidays for a maximum of 6 guests up to a maximum of 29 nights. You'll enjoy comfortable bedrooms and extensive living accommodation situated in a completely private & unique location with panoramic views of the mountains on three sides. Welcoming tranquillity, protected by high-tech 'SMART Home' security; with two live online security camera’s; 1 facing gated driveway entrance, 1 facing powerhouse entrance – neither face designated seating areas to protect guest privacy. The house blends into the countryside and is designed for easy living and comfort.
Internally, the modern 'home away from home' is built on one level flowing across the width of a hillside terrace with wide level patios on two of the lake facing sides. It is well equipped with a large open plan kitchen dining area, a relaxing lounge offers an additional 3-seater sofa bed benefitting from a central hallway wc/sink, which leads on to two en-suite bedrooms with comfortable beds (200 cm length) offering sleeping arrangement flexibility. Most likely while on holiday you'll be sampling village places to eat delights, but for those quiet nights in we can facilitate all your cooking preferences; the BBQ and two of the 4 ring hob runs off gas cylinder and the other 50:50 rings induction electricity, additional to microwave and oven.
It is warm in winter with underfloor heating throughout, double glazing & well fitting exterior doors and windows. In hot summer months because of it's elevated position during the night open windows to draw air-flow, then shut windows and close wooden blinds during the day to trap the cooler air - Spanish method as old as time and kinder to the environment. A large tower room is reached by external steps at the far side of the front terrace and plateau path; an ideal place to take advantage of the stunning views and cool breezes in the heat of summer. Outside the shaded terraces can be used for sunbathing, eating out, sunset cocktails and watching the wildlife on the lake.
Externally, there are two main terrace areas on a level with the house, surrounded and protected on three sides as a veritable sun trap or retreat for overhead sunshade. You can often enjoy a few days al-fresco dinning from the BBQ in December and start again in February. The tower room is an added bonus for hot summer days providing a shaded retreat with gentle breezes and spectacular views across the lake. We keep a couple of sun loungers there for afternoon siestas!
Private Plateau, is a self-contained large sloping (steep in places at the edge), enjoyable for all seasons; spring blossom fills the scented air, summer grass hibernates turning to sandy straw, autumn returns the grass green again with beautiful lavender planting and winter's valley storms can be viewed from the safety of the Tower Room if you're lucky enough to experience a lightening show. It is divided in to two areas upper and lower sections;
Upper, above and behind the house this higher area offers car turning and ample parking space. Curve left leads on to the above ground pool alongside natural ground for sitting out under a sun-shade sail awning and relaxing. *The 7 metres by 4.5 metres wide pool is available May to October, entered by wooden steps and heated from solar panel battery energy, remaining pleasantly refreshing. It is ideal for a dip in the level shallow waters and perfect for pool games for older children to play as it remains at a constant depth. To be clear it is not an exercise pool for serious swimmers. The pool has 360 degree views of the plateau, lake and different mountain ranges but is far enough away from the hillside villages to not be overlooked from plain sight. Make sure to secure the entrance gate for full plateau privacy.
Lower, natural area. Curve right to a large space left to nature which makes an ideal stroll and exploring area, containing young almond, olive trees and natural grasses. Lake Beznár Reservoir is a favourite aerial firefighters practice ground, you may see fascinating drill practices of collecting, turning and dropping gallons of water. Very much needed when in September 2022, an accidental spark destroyed over 5,000+ hectors of valuable forestry burned in a fire that took 5 days to contain over the mountains behind El Pinos, on the opposite side of the lake from the village beacon church. This is why it is essential for guests to respect Casa Moginar as a non-smoking property; inside to keep clean and smelling fresh and outdoors no cigarette or cigar butts to avoid accidents.

Guest Access & Car Parking:
Our local property representative will meet you in Talará, therefore, it essential to arrive in Talará in daylight hours so you are able to take notice of the route to independently navigate later. Additionally, we provide a 'What Three Words' grid reference to our entry gates and check you have the rooms setup as requested before leaving you in peace to enjoy your stay.
Some renters hire 4 wheel drive cars but this is not essential, just try to avoid small 4 seaters with small engines if there are going to be 4 of you with luggage - we’ve hired a VW Golf, a Caddy and a Citroen Berlingo. We found a Fiat 500 was amazing fun on the road but struggled to cope with two people and luggage on the steep curves up the driveway and route back to Talará!
You arrive at the house up a steep drive to a level gravel parking area stretching in front of the house and from there a wheel friendly ramp leads to the level front terrace with access to the front and lounge doors. Park outside the house to unload and then drive up the extended drive up to the top plateau to turn round where there is space for numerous cars to park.
The tower room is accessible more directly by external steps at the far end of the front terrace, or via the plateau gravel slope closer to the pool. Casa Moginar is not recommended for wheelchair disability users, however once up the entrance ramp mobility restricted guests will find the house on all one level. The second concrete slope leads on to the plateau as a turning point and parking space for two cars.
