“What is in a name?” You may see in this site and rental platforms, such as; AirBnB or others two spellings for Casa Moginar (Mojinar). The reason for this is when we bought our dream home is was named Casa Moginar for rural tourism registration and with a stone sign at the start of the private road, it of course made sense to transfer the same when we became its proud new owners.
During research I stumbled across a reference to “Mojinar de Chite”, and I was struck by the need to honour the history of its heritage, as our casa is built on the site of “Castillo del Mojinar”, the Castle of Chite. One of several Valle de Lecrin region castles due to it’s medieval Granada-Costa communication route.
For now please forgive dual name references, as over time we intend to officially change back to it’s original Spanish spelling Mojinar, and enjoy the balance of the past and present!

Historians Carlos González Martín and José Antonio Esquivel Guerrero, advocate that the foundation of this space, delimited by a wall as a defense, can be dated to the Ancient Iberian period (7th-6th centuries). Almost nothing remains of the rammed eath wall technique. For more historical information please view the ‘Castillo de Mojinar’ page.
